What is Women Build?
Women Build is a national Habitat for Humanity initiative designed to engage, educate and empower women to transform lives and strengthen communities by providing safe and affordable homes for families in need. Through shelter, we empower.
Did you know?
Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa homeowners build their own homes alongside volunteers and purchase the home with an affordable 0% interest, 30 year mortgage. They go through a rigorous application and interview process and must demonstrate a need for housing, a willingness to partner, and the ability to pay. Applicants must have a stable income, a good credit history and pass a background check. Habitat Tuscaloosa homeowners are hard-working individuals who want the best future for their family. The majority are single mothers.
Why is affordable housing an important cause?
A decent home gives us the strength, stability and independence to take care of ourselves and build our own futures. By partnering with Habitat, families transform their lives with the incredible effects of safe and affordable shelter, including improvements in health, safety, child development, economic opportunity and educational achievement.
Why Habitat?
Housing prices continue to rise at a higher rate than incomes, which makes buying a home impossible for many. Families pay increasing monthly rent, with little to show for it and no way to get ahead. Habitat removes the obstacles of large down-payments and compounded interest so that homes are affordable for low income families. Affordable housing costs enable families to save, build generational assets, and plan for their futures.
About Ms. Terry
We are pleased to build this year's Women Build in honor of Terry Saban. Through her leadership at Nick's Kids Foundation, Ms. Terry has dedicated herself to the support of women and families in the Tuscaloosa community. 21 Tuscaloosa families have been forever changed because of the Nick's Kids sponsored Habitat homes.
Join us in partnership to show your support of this important cause and in appreciation of the work of Terry Saban. When women take action, we build a better community!
